Mike joined Billingham Golf Club as a Junior in 1976 aged 13 - he worked at his 26 handicap so well that by 17 he was playing off Scratch! He became Junior Captain and was Club Champion on 5 occasions whilst also representing Durham County more than 40 times as an amateur. Amongst many honours he was twice Durham County Strokeplay Champion,1983 and 1984,NYSD Champion in 1985 and EGU Northern Counties Strokeplay Winner in 1989. Mike turned professional in 1990 and became Assistant to Paul Bradley at Billingham. When Paul left in 1995, Mike became Head Professional. He continued to achieve as a Professional and to date has won over 40 professional tournaments, including Woodham Classic 1990, NENW PGA Champion 1996 and Runner-Up at the European Club Professional championships in sardinia in 1999and 4th in the British Club Professional championships in the same year
