About the Golf Club

Sunningdale’s Old Course, which opened in 1901, was laid out by Willie Park Jnr....

It is pure enchantment that characterizes Sunningdale Old. Virtually every hole is played in splendid – and beautiful – isolation, and in harmony with nature.......There is subtlety here, a measure of drama, and a wealth of that one indispensable ingredient, pleasurable excitement......No wonder it may be the most beloved inland course in the British Isles.

All that being said, there are those who like the New Course, which opened in 1923, at least as well…The New is perhaps a bit more rugged than the Old, a bit more masculine, if you will...... This is rich and handsome and challenging golf, Harry Colt in top form.

Played here in April. Played the 36 holes and is well worth its reputation!! Played the New course in the morning and it really is a test, but a fantastic one at that. There is heather in play on a number of holes, and off the whites it was a long track, with a number of par 4's over 420 yards. It is immaculate in its appearance. We had lunch in between rounds, which was fantastic, if not a little annoying that you have to put on a shirt and tie. We then played the Old course and all i can say is, if you ever get a chance then play it. it is spectacular. The morning course was very good, the Old course is sensational. The condition is again first class and there are some great holes to be played. I found it more interesting, with plenty of tree lined fairways, and similar to Wentworth, the local mansions peering over the trees into the fairways. The tenth has to be one of the best driving holes in golf, you feel that you are top of the trees as you tee off
