About the Golf Club

Middlesbrough Golf Club was founded in 1908 and was first situated at Saltersgill Farm. It moved to the present home in 1938 when James Braid, a five times Open winner, excelled himself in designing the course. He fully utilised the undulating ground, the natural ravines and the woods. Braid was responsible for the layout of the King's Course at Gleneagles.

Although within five miles of the industrial heart of Teesside, the course has some of the most stunning views of the Cleveland Hills with Roseberry Topping forming the centrepiece. There are a number of very attractive holes on the course, but the 8th is probably the most beautiful and testing Par 4.

The short 7th over a tree-lined ravine is made more difficult by the close proximity of the boundary fence some five yards beyond the green.
