About the Golf Club

The James Braid designed golf course at Mere is as famous for its beauty as it is for the challenges it presents. The 6,817-yard, par-71 course was created out of 150 acres of Cheshire parkland in 1934. Mature trees, rhododendron bushes and the lake add considerable charm to a day’s golf but they are also there to test you!

Water, ravines and thick vegetation have been incorporated into the layout so that care and accuracy are demanded on many holes. The last four holes in particular are notorious for wrecking previously respectable score cards.

Sky Sports commentator Steve Beddoes has described Mere as ‘The Wentworth of the North’.

Played here recently on a corporate day and it has lived up to the hype i had heard. Course was in fantastic condition with lots of bunkers coming into play for attacking players. Lots of doglegs on the course but this only adds to the experience and a welcome change to courses with typical straight holes or doglegs that you can just drive across.Clubhouse was also fantastic with friendly staff, bit i did love was the range at the course, driving off into the mere, seems to have brought a smile to my face!
