About the Golf Club

Brighton and Hove is a beautiful place to play golf. Set high on the Sussex Downs, the views are incredible.

The course is a 9 hole gem. It offers completely different tees on the back 9, and is a great test of golf for even the most accomplished player. Six par 3’s, two par 5’s and ten par 4’s make up the par of 68 for men, and two of the par 4’s are par 5’s for the ladies giving them a par of 70.

The course itself offers a stiff challenge. Do not be fooled by the yardage, at just over 5,700 yards, it appears from the score card to be a relatively simple test. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Sea breezes, rolling terrain and tricky greens all combine to make the course a true test of ability.

Length is required to reach some of the longer par 4’s, accuracy is required to deal with the tighter holes through the valley, and a solid short game is needed to cope with the perfectly true, but tricky greens.
The course really will test all aspects of your game.

A James Braid design, this nine hole course oozes quality, even if one does look at the land beyond the fifth hole, where there used to be a further nine, with a little regret for what might still have been. Fairways and greens are capital. A second set of tees gives a very different and imaginative complexion to each nine holes. The six par threes each pose a different question, with the eight hole being the hardest, well over two hundred yards with all sorts of trouble left and right. After the famous Drop Hole, which for many years was endowed to reward a hole in one in competition, the feared Dog Leg, which when it comes as the 16th can be a real card wrecker, with a particularly virulent copse of nastiness to carry for the second shot, assuming a good drive. A former Club Champion once scored 13 on this hole - in a Championship playoff! Well worth a visit.
