A Mouthguard For Golfers?!

Under Armour takes golf weirdness up to a new level

Around our way, Under Armour is best known for clothing the rugby team that likes to turn up for the second-half of international matches. Wales, that is. Under Armour is massive in US sport - you'll have seen tons of product placement in The Wire, too.

The more eagle-eyed among you may also have noticed that a growing army of golfers is wearing the kit, with Ross Fisher arguably the highest-profile UK player and Hunter Mahan, winner of the 2010 Phoenix Open, one of Under Armour's biggest winners.

What we didn't know (until our friends at Golf Vacation Insider told us), was that the low-key Mahan wore Under Armour's performance mouthgear, designed in conjunction with Bite Tech to stop stress hormone cortisol from being released when the jaw makes a teeth-clenching action. Mahan's endorsement couldn't ring any louder: "It has increased my strength, power and heightened my accuracy", possibly neglecting to mention the fact that it also made him irresistible to women.

Cynicism apart, we would like to applaud Under Armour for writing this new chapter of strangeness in this weird and wonderful world of golf.
