April 26, 1951: Some chap called Phil McGleno was born. Who? Well, having changed his name once to Phillip McClelland O’Grady, he's best-known by his second name-change, Mac O’Grady. O'Grady won two PGA Tour events and was talented enough to be able to play golf to scratch standard both right and left-handed.
April 27, 1929: George Duncan trounced the legendary Walter Hagen, 10 and 8, in the process of leading his team to a 7-5 victory over the United States in the second Ryder Cup at Moortown Golf Club, Leeds.
April 28, 1966: The relative peace and tranquility of Carmichael, California was interrupted by the birth of John Patrick Daly (pictured), winner of the 1991 PGA Championship and the 1995 Open.
April 29, 1947: Flaxen-haired, flare-wearing 1973 US Open and 1976 Open champion John Laurence Miller, otherwise known simply as Johnny, was born in San Francisco, California.
April 30, 1929: The R&A, guardians of the rules of golf, voted against the notion of making the golf ball bigger and lighter, arguing that it would make the game too difficult.
May 1, 1971: PGA Tour player Stuart Appleby was born in Cohuna, Australia. A winner on The PGA Tour eight times (April 2010), Appleby lost his first wife in a car accident in 1998 and his close friend and fellow golfer Payne Stewart in a fatal plane crash in 1999.
May 2, 1987: tied for the 54-hole lead at the S&H Classic, three-time Majors winner and 1980s golfing pin-up Jan Stephenson was injured in an automobile accident and was unable to finish the tournament, although we can happily report she did fully recover from her injuries.
