Latest betting odds for European Tour event

Rory McIlroy - bookies favourite for Omega Desert Classic win

Everyone’s talking about the Omega Desert Classic in Dubai this weekend and quite rightly as the leaderboard is taking shape for an action packed final two rounds.
Tiger Woods has generated some interest after a second round 66 put him in contention for his first win in 14 months and he now sits four shots off leader Rory McIlroy who’s on minus 11. McIlroy has been superb so far with a 65 and 68 to his name and he will take some beating if the others want to walk away with this prestigious European Tour trophy.
He is firm favourite with the bookies too who have him at 13/8 for outright tournament win whilst Woods is now the second choice for the bookmakers at 9/2.
Others in contention are South African Thomas Aitken and Spaniard Sergio Garcia who are both tied on ten under after consistent 67s apiece over the two rounds.
Garcia, who is without a win since 2008, may be worth a cheeky outside bet as he currently sits at 5/1 with Ladbrokes.com whilst Aitken is back at 10s.
World number one Lee Westwood is far from out of the running as he sits nicely on five under in tied 11th and you can get him at 14/1 to win the event. Playing partner and world number two, Martin Kaymer, is a shot back and has slightly longer odds of 16/1.
My tip, however, comes in the shape of Steve Webster. This low-key Englishman is having a stunning time and despite dropping a shot on the last today, he is eight under and sits in fourth. He’s hit two rounds of 68 so far and if he can keep his head together he may end up as a surprise winner. His odds of 33/1 reflect his unknown quantity and although he only has two European Tour wins to his name, I’ve got a little feeling that he may spring a surprise this weekend.
Then again, my tips have gone awfully wrong in the past so don’t place your house on it!
