Race to Dubai hotting up

McDowell and Kaymer to battle it out for Tour title

The Race to Dubai is certainly hotting up as the European Tour golfers head to the Dubai World Championship on November 25th.With two players mathematically in the hunt to take the title, next week’s competition promises to be a little bit special.Martin Kaymer was over 500,000 Euros clear at one stage but Graeme McDowell, the Northern Irish US Open champion, has reigned the German in and now only 290,000 Euros separate the pair. And with just under 1,000,000 Euros on offer to next week’s winner, the event promises to showcase everything brilliant about European Tour golf.Unfortunately for Kaymer, McDowell is one of the form players at present. The man from Ulster has been there or there abouts in all recent competitions and finished fifth at the Hong Kong Open this weekend, three shots behind Ian Poulter, the eventual winner. The win for Poulter, which included a majestic 10-under 60, is the Englishman’s 10th on the European Tour and takes him back into the world’s top 10.And with Kaymer sitting this one out, you have to fancy McDowell for the Race to Dubai crown.Kaymer is a cool customer, extremely talented and is never flustered on the course, but he has been lacking form since the Ryder Cup and I feel this will go against him in Dubai.McDowell, on the other hand, has flourished since the Ryder Cup success over the US and has won or been in the hunt at many competitions. Both players know this is effectively a winner takes all match and, although there will be other golfers out to win the massive purse, you can guarantee these two will be doing all they can to take the European Tour title – and you have to say, after their respective successes this season, you wouldn’t begrudge either of them walking away with the crownAll in all, we can be sure of one thing – the Race to Dubai will be a magical end to what has been a terrific season for Europe’s elite golfers.
