It's simply ridiculous!

Davies wins again but it goes unnoticed

Posted Nov 21, 2010 by Jeff Dawson

Laura Davies

She is Britain’s most famous and successful female golfer, yet Laura Davies, who is right in the mix to win her eighth Ladies European Tour title, is set to be overlooked at many sports ceremonies over the coming months.Europe’s elite golfers are quite rightly set to be recognised at the many glitzy evenings coming up, yet Davies’s achievement’s this season are set to be overlooked. The Sunday Times published its Sportswoman of the Year nominees recently and in the six finalists, Davies is nowhere to be seen. Yet when you look at her achievements and her latest victory, published on the following page of the same publication, it is difficult to see how.She recently won the Indian Open and this is her fifth win of the season and her 80th of her professional career. This win has also put her into second place on the Tour’s money list, just 32,444 Euros behind South African Lee-Ann Pace. If Davies can win the Dubai Ladies Masters in December she will regain the title she last won in 2006 and first won in 1985.Her stellar achievements need to be recognised. She has been at the top of a thoroughly competitive sport for 25 years and she shows no signs of letting up.The 47-year-old seems to be ignored by everyone who should be taking note. Journalists, news reporters, and indeed, golf itself, need to give her the recognition she deserves. Not many of the male golfers out there can boast a record as impressive as hers and not many can claim five victories this season. Her no-nonsense approach to the game should be embraced by all and the fact that she is still to be inducted into the game’s Hall of Fame is nothing short of ridiculous. If anyone deserves it, Laura Davies does.I hope, following her latest triumph, that people will start to recognise what an incredible talent she is and start to give her the plaudits she deserves. In fact, we should all stand up and give her a round of applause. I’m doing just that, right now!
