Donald tipped for Cadillac success

Englishman is 8/1 to win WGC event in Florida

Luke Donald

There’s only one competition everyone is focussing on this weekend and that is the WGC Cadillac Championship in Florida where the world’s best are all in action.
The top three players in the world rankings – Martin Kaymer, Lee Westwood and Luke Donald – have been put together for the first two rounds and any of these three will have the best chance of taking the win.
Donald is in the form of his life following his win in the Match Play final two weeks ago and he has started strongly here finishing the first round on five under. He is my tip for the win and have him at 8/1, second favourite behind Kaymer who is at 4/1.
Kaymer, six under after the first round and two behind Hunter Mahan, is definitely the man of the moment in world golf and his consistent form over the last few years has enabled him to become the world number one. Westwood, the world number two is down at 20/1, the same as Tiger Woods.
If you fancy a long shot, take a punt on Graeme McDowell at 40/1. He finished the first round on -2 after a solid opening but is one of those golfers who is capable putting a decent run together.
If you’re still a believer that Woods will be able to end his winless run in this tournament then he may be worth a bet. He is six off the pace on two under but is showing signs that he can construct a few decent rounds and challenge. have Woods at 20/1.
Leader Mahan was sensational in the first round, shooting an emphatic 64 to lead Japan’s Ryo Ishikawa by one. American Mahan is placed at the same as Donald on 8/1 but the big question will be can he continue this form for the next three days.
Whatever happens, golf fans can be sure they are to see some incredible action over the next few days.
