Peterborough Milton Golf Club is an idyllic golf course

Peterborough Milton Golf Club - Scorecard, Yellow tees

There are many golf courses around the country that hold special memories and sit on a pedestal for those who play there and each course is unique is it’s own special way. Today, I’m going to look at the course where I was a member for a few years and that’s Peterborough Milton Golf Club.

This idyllic course, set in the grounds of Milton House in Peterborough, is a stunning golfing venue and a challenge for even the best of players out there.

It offers pretty much everything in my eyes and I look back at my time there with great fondness. There is water. There is sand. There is parkland and trees. There is wildlife. There are holes that should be easy that aren’t and there are holes that are daunting that play extremely well. There is a great mix of lengths and there is enough there to keep even the most fickle golfer entertained.

As soon as you step onto the first tee, you know you are going to be greeted by something special. An opening par five with a lake on the right and a stream splitting the fairway, with out of bounds on the left, entices the big hitters to go for it and make it a short par five and the more conservative golfers to lay up and play for par.
My favourite hole, the 10th, is a dogleg left par four that looks straightforward. However, once you see the green you know that it’s far from that. An undulating putting surface, with what can only be described as a valley running through the middle, make finding the ideal lie extremely difficult. But that’s the fun.
And it is being presented by these decisions and challenges throughout that make it such a pleasure to play here.

I find the mix of threes, fours and fives perfect and although I’ve never really gotten the hang of the course and shot a round I was happy with, I would still be happy to walk out onto that first tee once more and give it my best.

As that’s the type of course it is. Its beautiful setting and its constant challenge make it a delightful experience for the average golfer as well as the competent player.

If you get the opportunity to play here, snap it up. This members club respects its heritage and its rules and, should you play there, you should too.

Peterborough Milton Golf Club is a golfers dream and on a glorious sunny day it doesn’t get much better than here.
