Tiger Woods 2009 BMW Championship

TIGER TALES
This might not be the most profound statement to kick off this week's column, but he really is rather good, isn't he... Read all about Tiger Woods' 10th win of eight shots or more on The PGA Tour at the 2009 BMW Championship at Cog Hill.

WOODS YOU BELIEVE IT (PART 136)
Consider how satisfied Tiger Woods must have been with one of the greatest golf shots of 2009 - his 302-yard 3-wood to 15 feet for eagle at the 617-yard ninth hole at Cog Hill during the third day's play. Personally, I might have been tempted to chuck my clubs in a lake and take up a sport that offered more of a challenge.

THE KINGSTON DUO
South African James Kingston recorded his second European Tour win at the 2009 Mercedes Benz Championship in Cologne. The big question is, what makes a player so seriously out of form suddenly bounce back with a win?

WALKER WALKOVER
The USA triumphed over GB and Ireland for the third time in a row in the 2009 Walker Cup at Merion. The winning margin was an impressive 16 1/2  to 9 1/2 points, their biggest since 1997. It'll be a long wait before revenge can be sought The Balgownie Links at Royal Aberdeen in 2011.

SHIN WHEN YOU'RE WINNING...
While Tiger was breezing, Jiyai Shin of South Korea was charging. The LPGA rookie won her third title of the year at the 2009 P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Championship, coming from seven shots back to win a sudden death playoff with Angela Stanford and  Sun Young Yoo.

RORY TIME...
Is our favourite chippy South African golfer ever happy? Only when he's moaning, probably, which means Rory Sabbatini was in fine form after being left out of the International side for the Presidents Cup.

HANKS A BUNCH
Sorry about this, but I've ever seen US comedy actor Ray Romano play golf more often than I have on TV. What interests me about the The Haney Project, an upcoming documentary series with Tiger Woods' swing coach Hank Haney is a) Why would he bother and b) Does teaching bad golfers make good TV?

READY. AMES. FIRE!
A journalist will always make a fuss of a good headline to hide a dull story. In this case, I make no apologies whatsoever. It's a classic and I'll meet anyone who doesn't agree at dawn on Blackheath Common with pistols drawn.

LIFE'S A BEACH
Pebble Beach, arguably the greatest golf course on the planet, will host the 2010 US Open bucking the trend of the age by featuring the shortest hole in US Open history.
