The Back 9

Just in case you've already forgotten what happened in golf last week.

1. STAT'S ALL FOLKS!

You don't have to travel far for an stunning Tiger Woods statistic to impress your friends and family, particularly after his win at The Memorial last weekend. Our favourite is the fact that he's won 19 of his last 35 starts. That's just ridiculous... For more Tiger stats from the weekend, check out John Bush's column at the PGA Tour here.

2. YOU GOT MAIL

We're not as easily-impressed with the work of some of our journalistic colleagues as you might imagine (get out of the Media Centre once in a flippin' while, will ya?), but even though an email roundtable is a bit prehistoric now that we've got podcasts and video blogs, it's well worth reading the thoughts of some of Sports Illustrated's finest on Tiger's win here.

3. ALADDIN DANE

Jeppe Huldahl disproved the time-honoured opinion that you have to learn to lose before you can win, the Challenge Tour graduate joining a 'select' (ie low profile) band of golfers including Steen Tinning, Simon Khan and Scott Strange, for whom The Celtic Manor Wales Open was their first victory. It was the first time he'd ever challenged, appropriately enough...

3. APPETITE FOR CONSTRUCTION

...Or at least the headwear worn by those lucky few who still have a job in the construction industry, after David Duval and Stewart Cink both struck spectators on the weekend Check our Divots column here.

4. UP FOR THE CUP

We enjoyed The Ryder Cup captains beauty pageant at The Celtic Manor. But who won our hearts? We flirted with Monty, but that third round 78 had us swooning for Corey Pavin, whose Desert-Storming days are very much numbered, according to John Huggan at The Scotsman.

5. TWEET DREAMS

Rumours that LPGA head Carolyn Bivens is now asking tour players to use Twitter in their sleep were made up for the convenience of this bogus headline. She did encourage them during tournament play, though, as Ryan Corazza at ESPN reports here

6. DAD KARMA

You know you're in for a disappointment when the word 'Ultimate' is used with the words 'Father's Day Gift', particularly if it comes from a man with a pearly white smile like 'PGA Tour coach' Joey D. Can I use this platform to plead - please, please don't get me a GolfGym PowerSwing Trainer kids, OK?

7. BACK IN BLACK

What do you mean you're sick of Tiger stories. Don't you want to know the precise details of his 'secret' round in front of just 30 spectators at Bethpage Black, the morning after his win at the Memorial? You won't want to read this then...

8. OPEN SESAME!

While we're on the subject, fancy making the starting line-up in this years Virtual US Open? There's still time to qualify and win guest tickets for the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach, courtesy of the USGA. Click here to enter.

9. MAY THE EDFORS BE WITH YOU...

Sorry about the headline, but which sane person wouldn't want to watch European Tour star Johan Edfors being interviewed by a woolly golf club headcover? See here for the full caper.
