Stars Assemble For Scottish Senior Open

Big names to take part at Fairmont St Andrews

Sandy Lyle will be among the home favourites

Having set the pace at the beginning of this year’s order-of-merit challenge, Sandy Lyle is looking to get his bid back on track at the Scottish Senior Open this week.

The two-time major winner began with top-five finishes in both Australia and Japan, and recorded his first victory in 19 years at the ISPS Handa Senior World Championship at Mission Hills.

Since then, however, he has slipped to eighth in the order of merit with eight competitions remaining on the European Senior Tour, so when he makes his first appearance at the Torrance course at Fairmont St Andrews this week, he’ll be looking to make a good start in his home country.

Although, he won’t be the only home favourite taking part, with Sam Torrance set to compete on the course he helped design, and Ian Woosnam, another former Ryder Cup captain, is also going to attract a significant following.

The tournament has been staged at the five-star resort for the past two years, with the layout proving popular with competitors, helping to attract even more big names this year. Costantino Rocca, defending champion Barry Lane and Mark James will all be stepping onto the tee.
