Juli Inkster will become the first playing vice captain

United States Solheim Cup captain Rosie Jones will announce the players representing their country this weekend, including her two captain’s picks, after the Safeway Classic. The event is the final qualifying event for players to get automatic entries into the US team.

The top nine players in the points race are already settled, but the tenth spot in the rankings, currently held by Christina Kim, is still to play for. Interestingly, assistant captain Juli Inkster will make history, by becoming the first assistant captain to play in the tournament, having qualified based on her points accumulated this year. This year’s competition will be the ninth Solheim Cup appearance.

As for the European team, there are more places still undecided, although Melissa Reid, Laura Davies, Suzann Pettersen and Christel Boeljon have sealed their places in the team. With one qualifying event remaining also, at the Ladies Scottish Open at Archerfield Links this weekend.

Captain Alison Nicholas will have time to consider her four wild card picks, with the deadline set for 29th August, allowing her to take a look at all of the contenders over the next week.

The Solheim Cup will be staged at Killeen Castle in County Meath, Ireland, between 23rd and 25th September.
